Try a piercing before you get it done

Getting a piercing is a real step. You pick a spot on your face or ear, and you'll see it in the mirror every single day after that. So it makes sense to have doubts. Doubts are exactly what a fake piercing is made for.

With a fake piercing you wear the look without a hole. You clip it on, walk around with it for a day and take it off again. That way you know much better what you want before you book an appointment.

Why testing first is smart

A piercing always looks different in your head than in real life. A septum you love in a photo of someone else might sit just a little differently on your face. And the other way around: a spot you never thought of might suddenly be perfect.

By testing, you answer questions you'd otherwise only be able to answer afterwards:

  • Do I still like it after a whole day, or only for the first hour?
  • Does it go with my clothes, my hair and my other jewelry?
  • Do I feel confident wearing it, also when I go out?
  • Which side of my nose, or which ear, is actually my favorite?

How to do the test

  1. Pick the spot you're really considering. Nose, septum, helix or lip? Grab the fake version that comes closest to your plan. All options are under fake piercings.
  2. Wear it on a normal day. Not just at a party, but also at home, at the supermarket or on the couch. That way you see if the look fits into your everyday life too.
  3. Take photos. From the front, from the side, with and without makeup. Look at them again a day later with fresh eyes.
  4. Ask for an honest opinion. From someone who knows you well. But in the end, only your opinion counts.
  5. Repeat it a few times. Liking it once is nice. Still happy after five times? Then you know.

Test the size and shape too

A piercing isn't just a spot, it's also a shape and a size. That's exactly where a fake piercing makes it easy to compare.

Take the smooth ring in gold. It comes in 8, 10 and 13 mm. Around your nose, 8 mm sits the tightest, 10 mm is the classic size and 13 mm really stands out around your earlobe or lip. See yourself more with a stud? Then try a nose clip, like the nose clip with bar in silver. From a distance it looks like the little dot of a real nose piercing.

The same goes for a septum. A magnetic septum with a horseshoe ring gives a different look than a thin clip with a ring underneath. With the magnetic septum in gold you even get two balls and two spikes, so you can test both a clean and a bold look.

Choosing a color is part of it

We have most designs in gold and silver. If you're not sure, try both. Gold often gives a warmer look, silver a cooler and sleeker one. You'll see which suits you best fastest when you hold them next to your other jewelry. Have a look at the gold fake piercings and the silver fake piercings.

After the test: now what?

Still in love with the look? Then you have two options, and both are good.

Option 1: you get it done for real. Go to a professional piercer. They'll look at your anatomy, tell you which spot and which jewelry work for you and explain what you need to know about aftercare. Feel free to bring your fake piercing and your photos, so the piercer sees right away what you mean.

Option 2: you stay happily fake. Totally fine too. Lots of people love being able to switch. A septum today, a nose ring tomorrow, nothing the day after.

Good to know: a fake piercing tells you nothing about how a real piercing feels or heals. For any questions about a real piercing, a professional piercer is the right person to ask.
