On in seconds

How does a fake piercing work?

New to fake piercings? First read what a fake piercing is, which kinds there are and where you wear them.

A fake piercing is on in seconds once you know how. Every type works a little differently. Below you'll find, for each kind, how it stays on and how to put it on. Take your time in front of the mirror the first time; after that it's second nature.

Nose clip

A U-shaped clip for your nostril, left or right. The decorated part sits on the outside, like a stone, heart, rose, leaves or a bar. On the inside there's a tiny ball that keeps everything in place. Browse the fake nose piercings.

  1. Hold the clip with the opening facing your nose.
  2. Slide it around your nostril. The ball goes on the inside, the decorated part on the outside.
  3. Press gently and it's on.
  4. Feels loose? Squeeze it a little tighter, very carefully. Pinching? Bend it open just a touch.

Nose ring

An open ring that you put around your nostril, often with a detail like a heart, moon, star or butterfly. You can also wear all the nose rings on the top edge of your ear (helix). Browse the fake nose rings.

  1. Gently bend the ring open a little with your fingers.
  2. Put it around your nostril, so the opening sits inside your nose.
  3. Softly push it closed again until it sits right, without squeezing hard.
  4. Turn it until the prettiest detail faces front.

Ring (smooth or twisted)

These rings have a tiny spring inside. Pull the ring open by the tab, put it in place and let go: it clicks itself shut. You wear it around your nostril, earlobe, helix or lip.

  • Smooth ring: in 8, 10 and 13 mm. 8 mm sits closest around your nose, 10 mm is the classic size (also the most comfortable around your lip) and 13 mm really stands out on your earlobe or lip.
  • Twisted ring: in 13 mm. Big enough to stand out on your earlobe or lip, and bold as a nose ring too.
  1. Hold the tab and pull the ring open a little.
  2. Pick your spot (nose, earlobe, helix or lip) and put it around it.
  3. Let go: the spring clips it in place by itself.
  4. Taking it off? Pull it open again and remove it.

Magnetic septum

A horseshoe ring with a magnet in two halves at the top. One half goes in each nostril, and they pull each other together through your septum. It comes with two balls and two spikes that you can swap yourself.

  1. Carefully pull the magnet apart into two halves.
  2. Put one half in each nostril: left and right of your septum.
  3. The halves find each other through your septum, and the ring hangs under your nose.
  4. Rather go bold? Swap the balls for the spikes: twist them off, spikes on.

Note: the magnetic septum is not suitable for people with a pacemaker or other medical implant.

Septum clip

A thin wire with two small hooks at the top. You slide them around your septum, and underneath hangs a little ring with two balls.

  1. Hold the clip so the two hooks point upwards.
  2. Gently slide the hooks into your nostrils, one on each side of your septum.
  3. Press lightly, so the clip grips around your septum.
  4. Done: the little ring with the balls hangs under your nose, just like a real septum.

Septum spikes and septum tribal

These statement septums are a horseshoe without a magnet, which you gently squeeze around your septum.

  1. Bend the ring open a tiny bit with your fingers.
  2. Slide the balls into your nostrils, one on each side of your septum.
  3. Gently squeeze it a little closed, so it stays around your septum.
  4. Turn the decoration down, that's where it looks best.

All styles are under fake septum piercings.

Ear cuff

Two smooth rings joined together, so it looks like you've got two piercings side by side. You wear it in your conch (the middle of your ear) or on your helix (the top edge of your ear). Browse the ear cuffs.

  1. Decide where it should go: in your conch or on your helix.
  2. Slide the cuff over the edge, at the thinnest part of your ear.
  3. Move it along to your spot and press gently.
  4. Too loose? Squeeze it a tiny bit tighter, very carefully.

Lip piercing

A lip cuff with two rings side by side, each with a ball at the front. They're joined on the inside. You wear it over the edge of your bottom lip, in the middle or slightly to the side. Browse the fake lip piercings.

  1. Bend the cuff open a tiny bit with your fingers.
  2. Slide it over your bottom lip, balls at the front.
  3. Press gently until it's secure.
  4. Going to eat or sleep? Take it out first.
