Tips for your septum

All articles

A fake septum piercing is the quickest way to find out if a ring under your nose suits you. No hole needed: it clips around your septum or holds on with a tiny magnet. Choose a subtle clip, a magnetic septum ring or a bold style with spikes or tribal details.

Three ways to wear a fake septum

  • Magnetic: at the top of the horseshoe ring sits a magnet in two halves, one for each nostril. They pull each other together through your septum, so there's nothing to squeeze shut.
  • Clip: a thin wire with two small hooks that you slide around your septum. Underneath hangs a little ring with two balls.
  • Clip-on horseshoe: a horseshoe ring with balls at the ends, which you squeeze shut just a little around your septum.

Torn between the first two? We compare them in fake septum: magnetic or clip.

Is a magnetic septum ring for you?

A magnetic septum is great if you'd rather not clip anything. You place the two halves in your nostrils and they find each other on their own. Bonus: with the spikes on, it's suddenly a lot bolder. Important to know: a magnetic septum is not suitable for people with a pacemaker or other medical implant. In that case, go for the clip, the spikes or the tribal, which work without a magnet.

How to get your septum with no hole just right

  • Magnetic: carefully pull the magnet apart and put one half in each nostril, left and right of your septum.
  • Clip: hold the hooks upwards, gently slide them into your nostrils and press lightly.
  • Spikes and tribal: bend the ring open very slightly, place the balls in your nostrils and gently squeeze it a little closed.

Then turn the decoration downwards and check in the mirror that it hangs nicely in the middle. More steps for each type on how it works.

Styling, taking off and storing

A septum is a statement on its own, so you don't need to add much. Pick the spikes or the tribal for a rock look at a festival, or a gold clip if you want to keep it calm. Since there's no hole, you decide when it shows: without during the day, with at night. It's also an easy way to test whether a real septum might be for you later. Want to go one step further? Add a small clip to your nostril from the fake nose piercings. Inspiration for a night out is in festival and party looks with fake piercings.

Take your septum out before you sleep or work out, and never squeeze a clip-on style shut too hard. Store the spare balls and spikes together with your septum in the white NONPIERCED box, so you never lose a single part.
